La pandemia, along with its restrictions, uncertainties, horrors and anxieties, is as good a time as any to write and make art about human migration. Its arrival in March coincided with a funding award for Reading the Migration Library from the BC Arts Council. So, while people are close to their computer work stations, the production side of this project has been put into action. There are no pressing deadlines this time, but if the current production pace continues, three new artist books will be completed in summer. And, these items will join the current archive on a new project website and on-line archive of the entire collection of artist books. Three more pieces are being planned for fall, provided more funding comes our way…
Stay tuned for the results of productive, collaborative, though distanced, home office work time that is involving Crista Dahl, Deanne Achong, Carlos Colín, Jairo Salazar, Vicky Lum and Lois Klassen. Our combined work is immersing us in topics of pre-historic migrations, the leisure needs of temporary foreign farm workers and the displacement of women in Canada as a result of incarceration.
