It is always delightful to receive publications by the poet-nymph Liza Leyla (Eliza Muylaert). As I wrote in a previous post, Liza Leyla’s mailed publications are keeping the project Renegade Library and the memory of Guido Vermeulen alive. In the latest offering, Journal d’Amapola / Pleine Lune, poetry is mixed with short prose sections organized around ten moon cycles. The booklet begins with an essay summarizing Liza Leyla’s work by philosopher Jean C. Baudet, and fittingly ends with a letter to the moon-bound Petit Prince. This publication is a plea for peace and pacifism. Muylaert, a Flemish Belgique, writes in multiple languages with this volume entirely in French.

Also in French from Belgium, the e-zine Kermesse 62 arrived in the LFP in-box this month. It is the latest volume in the project 16pages by @jeanfi_belgium. Kermesse is a 44-page assembling of collages, texts, and found artifacts from who knows where, in who knows what order. It includes gems like a short essay describing la Fabrica de Arte (FAC) in Havanna (that I was able to visit in its prosperous years when Obama was managing to thaw relations with Cuba – good memories!). There are many other more humorous, slightly surrealist, anti-establishment missives that can be imagined as mail art postcards, which is perhaps the source of most of it. Kermesse (a Dutch word meaning an outdoor festival, with charitable origins, I learn from Wikipedia) is an emailed periodical that Jeanfi will send on request, or that can be viewed here.
